Plankton as Captain Pipsqueak.

The episode begins at the Chum Bucket where Plankton fails to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula. He later watches TV and gets an idea to join the League of E.V.I.L.

Plankton tries different costumes until Karen gives a green thumbs up. Plankton then goes to find the secret lair which happens to be accessible by going through a dumpster. Once there, there are many wanting to join the force in a subtle way. They try out but they fail for entering the team. Plankton says he for all intents and purposes wants to really steal the formula for world domination. They decide to choose Plankton to join the force in a big way. With Plankton in the force, they commit many sorts of evil acts in a subtle way.

First, they go to Super Weenie Hut Jr's, where they want to grab lunch. Plankton heads into the restaurant for lunch. When he gets there, the server notices that he is a villain and calls for security. Amid the chaos, Plankton steals food to bring back. E.V.I.L is grateful for Plankton providing lunch.

The villains next want Plankton to take a bag with flames and set it on the doorstep of The Foot, who the villains want to get revenge on. When Plankton sets the fire on the doorstep, he knocks on the door, causing The Foot to come out and accidentally step on Plankton and the bag. But when Plankton tries to crawl out of the bottom of The Foot, the house explodes, even The Foot. Plankton had a Chum Mix in the bag which caused the house and The Foot to explode. Because of this, Plankton was welcomed to the club. The villains ask Plankton what to do next. Plankton has an idea for everyone.

SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward stuck inside the Dirty Bubble.

They come to the Krusty Krab and the staff is surprised they came. Dirty Bubble traps SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs as a distraction. Plankton steals the formula, but E.V.I.L finds out that the formula is just a recipe for a sandwich. They get disappointed, give the formula back to Mr. Krabs, and kick Plankton out of the force. And in the process, trapping him in hot sauce.

Production

On May 11, 2021, in an interview with The Art of SpongeBob Discord server, Richard Pursel revealed that he would be bringing back the Amoeba Gang (who appeared in SpongeBob Comics No. 47) in an upcoming episode of the series. Two days later, he said that his work on the show was freelance and in the episode he was writing, Plankton would join the league of E.V.I.L.

Richard Pursel's draft of this episode's script was completed on June 10, 2021.

This episode's title was confirmed by the Futon Critic on April 22, 2022.

This episode's mixing process was completed on May 6, 2022. Also, Vincent Waller reaffirmed that the episode was a joint with the aforementioned Pursel.

On June 17, 2022, Waller confirmed who provided storyboard work, production management, and animation and supervising direction on this episode.

• This is the second time Plankton teams up with Man Ray, the first being "Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up is Go!"
• This episode was originally titled "Member's Only."
• This episode was originally going to premiere on May 20, 2022 at 7:00pm, but it was pulled.
  • This is because the episode's packaging number was originally going to be 276a and was paired with "Say Awww!," but it ended up getting changed to 277a and swapped with "Patrick the Mailman."
    • Additionally, this episode ended up being paired with "Plane to Sea."
• This is the first episode Richard Pursel wrote since "House Worming" in season 10.
  • It is also the first time that he and Zeus Cervas have worked on the same episode since "Chum Fricassee."
• This is the first time Dennis is seen interacting with Plankton, as the two were never seen on-screen together in the first movie, despite being hired by him.
  • This episode also marks his first physical appearance in the main series.
  • The thief from the same movie also makes his first in-series appearance, albeit with a green jacket instead of his dark blue one from the movie.
• Notodoris' name is never stated in the episode, but it is revealed in the credits.
• Nosferatu was animated in Adobe Animate Flash in this episode.
• The Amoeba Gang was originally going to be one of the many villains to return in this episode, but they were cut.
• In the initial draft of the script, the thief (known in the script as "The Boat Jacker") was supposed to call out Man Ray instead of Tattletale Strangler.
• This is the first episode since The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water where Karen has red buttons instead of light aquamarine. Her hands are also gray in this episode instead of blue.
  • However, in "CopyBob DittoPants," her buttons were red in one shot, although it was most likely a coloring error.
• Sherm Cohen and Zeus Cervas share the same credit positions for this and "Plane to Sea," its sister episode.

  • The Earworm from the episode of the same name reappears in this episode. However, it appears to be larger than it was in its debut episode.

• During the scene where Plankton tries on different costumes, one of the outfits he wears references the Marvel Comic Books villain Venom.
• Plankton's "Captain Pipsqueak" outfit resembles Marvel Comics character Magneto.
• Gramma is dressed as Garfield from the franchise of the same name.
• The Foot stepping on Plankton was inspired by The Foot of Cupid from the 1969 British surreal sketch comedy series, Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Errors

• In the opening, when Plankton gets kicked out of the Krusty Krab, the road to the Chum Bucket is missing.

• When Plankton is inside one of the dumpsters, he does not have his gloves on. Then, after a few seconds, his gloves are back on him.
• Man Ray enters the Krusty Krab by blasting a hole above the entrance. In later scenes, the hole is missing.
• When Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob walk away after putting Plankton in the garbage bin, SpongeBob's teeth are yellow for a split second.
