An artist in a boat is drawing then drops his pencil in the sea and cries.
The rule of the artist at sea number one: Always bring a spare pencil. SpongeBob and Patrick are playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" using bubbles, when the pencil lands in between them. SpongeBob and Patrick then realize that whatever they draw with the pencil comes to life, thus naming it the "Magic Pencil". SpongeBob then draws "DoodleBob", a sketch version of himself intended to fool Squidward. However, DoodleBob begins beating Squidward up, steals the magic pencil, and wreaks havoc (such as trapping SpongeBob and Patrick in a hole, hitting Patrick with a wrench drawn from sand, a bowling ball made of a rock, and a regular rock.) until SpongeBob erases him (the eraser end of the pencil is capable of erasing anything, not just drawings). However, an arm remains, and in the night it steals the pencil from SpongeBob and draws itself back. DoodleBob wakes up SpongeBob and attempts to erase him, and during the struggle the pencil is snapped in half (DoodleBob has the eraser and SpongeBob has the point). DoodleBob sharpens his half, so he has an eraser and a point, and the two begin dueling until SpongeBob accidentally throws his pencil out the window hitting Squidward in the process. DoodleBob corners him in front of a bookshelf, but steps on an open book, sealing his leg onto the paper. SpongeBob traps DoodleBob on a piece of paper, and the page is framed on a wall. The pencil is propelled back to the artist who grabs it and continues drawing, but when he touches his canvas, the lead snaps. The rule of the artist at sea number two: Always bring a pencil sharpener.

Synopsis
On the ocean's surface, an artist in a rowboat sketches feverishly. Unfortunately, his pencil slips from his hand and falls into the sea. While screaming "No!," the French Narrator states the first rule of the artist at sea: "Always bring a spare pencil."
DoodleBob: (blabbing Gibberish)

Down on the ocean floor, SpongeBob and Patrick are playing "Rock-Paper-Scissors" with bubbles when the pencil suddenly lands in between them. SpongeBob and Patrick, at first terrified of the large artifact, start to doodle with it. They soon discover that whatever they draw with the pencil comes to life, and thus dub it the "magic pencil."
SpongeBob: Come on, Patrick. Give me a boost up!
SpongeBob soon draws "DoodleBob," a sketch version of himself intended to fool Squidward. However, DoodleBob beats Squidward up and steals the magic pencil, going off to wreak havoc across the seascape. SpongeBob and Patrick attempt to ambush DoodleBob, but fail when he appears too early before they could. SpongeBob eventually turns the tide of battle and uses the pencil's eraser to rub out DoodleBob.
Patrick: Can't we just stay down here where it's safe?

Unbeknownst to SpongeBob and Patrick, a lone arm remains, and in the night it steals the pencil back from SpongeBob and redraws its body while adding his angry eyebrows. DoodleBob then attempts to erase SpongeBob, and during the struggle, the pencil snaps in half. DoodleBob has the eraser and SpongeBob has the point. However, DoodleBob sharpens his half and SpongeBob accidentally flicks his pencil out of the window at Squidward's head. DoodleBob corners SpongeBob in front of a bookshelf, but steps on a sheet of paper and finds his foot absorbed into it.
*SpongeBob: I created this monster, and I gotta stop him!
Seizing his chance, SpongeBob closes DoodleBob in a book, in which the doodle is finally happy. The page with DoodleBob is then framed on a wall. Patrick arrives and listens to SpongeBob's musings on the nature of his doppelgänger, taking SpongeBob's photograph for the doodle. Knowing it's too dangerous in the wrong hands, they decide to send the magic pencil back from where it came, shooting it back up to the distraught artist.
(DoodleBob drops a wrench on Patrick's Head)
:DoodleBob: (blabs in gibberish)
:SpongeBob: See what I mean, Patrick?
:Patrick: Where's the leak, ma'am?
:(DoodleBob draws a bowling ball on a rock and rolls it)
:(Patrick gets hit with the bowling ball twice)
:SpongeBob: Are you OK Patrick?
:Patrick: FINLAND!
*SpongeBob: I was voted most artistic in high school.
With his drawing instrument returned, the artist excitedly prepares to begin a new masterpiece, but when the pencil meets the canvas, the lead snaps. As the French Narrator states the second important rule of the artist at sea, "Always bring a pencil sharpener," the artist screams "No!" again.
: (Pencil crashes through a window and hits Squidward on the head)
:Squidward: OW!! SpongeBob, you're gonna pay for that!!
:SpongeBob: Or maybe it was most clumsy...
*SpongeBob: He was just a 2D creature, lost in our 3D aquatic world, longing for a purpose.
