The toaster is a sentient toaster that first appears in "Krab Borg." It would later appear in The Patrick Star Show, with its most major role being in the episode "Enemies à la Mode."
Description
It looks like an ordinary blue toaster. However, it can function without needing to be plugged in (although it disobeys toasting any bread if it is not plugged in), as well as having the ability to make toast pop out of completely different areas (seen when the toaster makes toast pop out at different areas despite a plate covering the top of it).
Role in series
SpongeBob SquarePants
"Krab Borg"
The toaster is one of the many "robot friends" Template:Data:Links and Template:Data:Links destroy in front of Template:Data:Links to prove if he is a robot or not. Mr. Krabs claims that the toaster costs him $32.50.
"Buried in Time"
Incidental 41 brings the toaster to put into the time capsule. Before putting it in the time capsule, SpongeBob claims that it will be good for the people in the future, as they would know the wonders of toasted bread. It also makes a background appearance later in the episode inside the time capsule.
"Unreal Estate"
When Squidward accidentally activates the countdown on the rocket house, the toaster can be seen among the many objects floating when the rocket house is in space.
"Life Insurance"
When SpongeBob trips down the stairs, he accidentally gets toasted in the toaster.
"The Incredible Shrinking Sponge"
SpongeBob looks at the toaster to see that he has shrunk.
"Don't Wake Patrick"
While Template:Data:Links is sleep walking, he splatters butter onto the toaster and then eats it. The two pieces of bread that were inside the toaster pop out of his mouth, which Patrick then eats as well.
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years
"The Jellyfish Kid"
When SpongeBob is about to catch a jellyfish, it magically becomes the toaster when he pulls it out of his net. The toaster spews out a piece of bread, which Patrick eats while covering it with jellyfish jelly from the jellyfish he caught.
The Patrick Star Show
"The Patrick Star Show Theme Song"
The toaster makes a brief cameo in the theme song, in which it is able to toast two fully prepared steak dinners when Patrick introduces the audience to Bunny Star.
"Enemies à la Mode"
Template:Data:Links asks Bunny Star if anyone makes her angry, with her exclaiming that she loves everyone. However, she says that the toaster is bothering her for not toasting her bread. Bunny Star then tries several ways to toast her toast, but the toaster refuses to toast it (such as launching it onto the ceiling, or manipulating the toast to pop at random places). Eventually, Bunny Star smashes the toaster and nearly breaks it, before she finally realizes that the toaster was unplugged the whole time. Once she plugged the now beaten up toaster, it is able to toast the bread.
At the end of the episode, Bunny Star can be seen chasing the toaster which is hopping away from her and spewing bread as she forgot to plug the toaster in. Squidina also makes a remark about toaster repair.
Trivia
- It is implied that the toaster is sentient, as it functions without being plugged in and can be seen hopping away at the end of "Enemies à la Mode."
- Despite being smashed by Bunny Star, the toaster is seen completely fine at the end of the "Enemies à la Mode."
- This is likely either an animation error, or it was repaired offscreen.
- The toaster is one of the few non-main characters to make an appearance in every show.
