"Krabby Patty Creature Feature" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 11. In this episode, a new secret Krabby Patty formula has disastrous results for Bikini Bottom, and only SpongeBob can save the day.

Synopsis

The episode begins with Mr. Krabs delivering Krabby Patties to two customers at the Krusty Krab, only for them to be bored of them and want something new. Mr. Krabs takes SpongeBob to an underground lab to show him that he hired Sandy to make a new type of Krabby Patty, called the Secret Patty. Despite SpongeBob disliking this method, they still serve these patties to the customers.

Later that night, after everyone eats the patties, Mr. Krabs eats one himself, and he starts to feel weird. SpongeBob watches in horror as Mr. Krabs then transforms into a Krabby Patty monster. Soon Sandy transforms as well, followed by everyone else in the restaurant. The creatures soon leave the building and start going around Bikini Bottom, feeding people their body parts so they become Krabby Patty creatures as well. This makes SpongeBob panic and hide in the dumpster.

Moments later, Perch Perkins is shown to be one of the few people who have not become one of the Krabby Patty creatures. Right before the creatures turn him into one, he tells SpongeBob that Plankton was the only other person not infected yet. SpongeBob hides in the Chum Bucket and locks the doors. He tells Plankton about the situation, but only believes it when he sees it happening. Eventually, he and Karen become Krabby Patty creatures, and SpongeBob climbs a tower of chum to get away from them. Fortunately, some chum falls into the Krabby Patty Patrick's mouth, causing him to become sick and throw up the Secret Patty, becoming normal again, only to re-eat the Secret Patty and turn back into a zombie, to SpongeBob's annoyance.

This prompts SpongeBob to feed all the creatures chum, eventually turning them all back to normal. After everyone is cured, Mr. Krabs laments how badly his latest product failed. SpongeBob then states that the original Krabby Patty recipe is perfect just the way it is, and everybody agrees with him. Everyone goes back to the Krusty Krab, wanting regular Krabby Patties, leaving Plankton alone with the discarded Secret Patties and his restaurant a mess. The screen is about to fade to black, but Patrick (still a patty creature) stops it just in time to tell the viewer to "have some." He laughs at this, and the episode finally ends.

General

  • This episode originally had the packaging number of 221b and was paired with "No Pictures Please,"[3] but was changed to 222a, and was repaired with "Teacher's Pests."
  • Bikini Bottomites had also been poisoned by a Krabby Patty variation before in "The Krusty Sponge."
  • A clip from this episode was used in a bumper advertising new shows on Nick in Fall 2020.
    • Another clip was used during Nick's Halloween 2018 song.
  • This is the first episode to have three writers since "SpongeBob You're Fired."
    • This also means that this is the first episode to three writers after the second movie.
  • It is unknown if this episode is storyboard-driven or script-driven, as Dave Cunningham said that it might be a case of an episode having storyboards that contribute to the script, giving Chris Allison and Ryan Kramer "writer" credits. However, he is unsure because he did not direct the episode.[4][5]
  • When everyone turns into a Krabby Patty, they are a resemblance to SpongeBob's imagination in "Fear of a Krabby Patty."
  • This is the first episode to have the text painted with the background art.

  • Originally in the storyboards, the Secret Patties were originally going to be purple instead of orange.
    • The rough storyboard had the Secret Patties as blue.
  • An air raid siren can be heard in this episode. However, it is a different sound than the siren heard in "Wormy," "Valentine's Day," "No Free Rides," and "The Algae's Always Greener."
  • Patrick is the only voluntary victim, pulling a piece of patty from an infected citizen.
    • Likewise, that citizen is the only involuntary host, being disgusted by Patrick.
    • Patrick is also the only citizen to be infected more than once.
  • SpongeBob is the only citizen that was never infected.
    • However, Gary and Pearl were absent in this episode, so it is unknown whether or not they were affected.
  • The scene where SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs make silly faces has become a meme.
  • The "Many Secret Patties Later..." time card is similar to the title card of "The Krabby Patty That Ate Bikini Bottom," though it is red, purple, and orange instead of light blue, and is in widescreen.

Episode references

  • Bubble Bass talking about the pickles in Mr. Krabs' "costume" is a reference to the episode "Pickles."

Cultural references

Mr. Krabs with a weird face resembles of Pepe the Frog.
  • The title references a generic name used for horror television shows that aired from the 1960s-80s.
  • The episode is similar to zombie genre horror movies, including Braindead/Dead Alive, The Evil Dead and Return of the Living Dead.
  • The part where both Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff turn into Krabby Patties references the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, where Violet Beauregard turns into a blueberry.
  • The ending of this episode, in which Patrick is seen as a Krabby Patty Zombie again, closely resembles the ending of the Doctor Who season 9 episode "Sleep No More."
  • One of the faces Mr. Krabs makes earlier in the episode closely resembles Pepe the Frog.
    • This may or may not allude to the face he made when he choked on the apple in "Scaredy Pants."
  • One of the faces SpongeBob makes resembles Disney's Pete.

Errors

Adam Paloian's name is spelled incorrectly in the French opening credits.
  • In the French dub during the opening credits, Adam Paloian's name is misspelled as Adam Polain.
  • After Sandy turns into a Krabby Patty zombie, SpongeBob's Krusty Krab hat is not seen on him for the rest of the episode.
    • It could have been possible he removed his hat off-screen.
  • When the Krabby Patty zombies are trying to break into the Chum Bucket, the Mr. Krabs Zombie is not seen in the outside shot, despite being seen next to the planks on the door in the previous and next shots.
  • When SpongeBob climbs to the top of the bags of chum, one of the Hipster fish he cured is a Krabby Patty Zombie again.

  • After everyone is cured of the new Krabby Patty formula's effects, Sandy's tail is missing.
  • When Squidward says "Oh, my cranium" after being cured, his Krusty Krab hat is missing.
  • In the Filipino dub, Fred saying "Hey, we want something new, too!" is undubbed.
