The Super Spongy Square Games was a marathon that aired on July 21, 2012 premiering the first 2 episodes of season 9: "Extreme Spots" and "Squirrel Record," and 2 episodes of season 8: "Demolition Doofus" and "Face Freeze!" It was followed by a special preview of the new series You Gotta See This!

  • Shortly before this marathon aired, on July 10, 2012, a dispute between Paramount Global and DirecTV resulted in the removal of the Nickelodeon channel (along with the other Paramount Global-owned channels) from the network, resulting in many customers switching providers.[1] However, one day before this marathon aired (July 20, 2012), the channel was restored, along with the other Paramount Global-owned channels.
    • The Nick.com/SpongeBob.com website during those 10 days even had a banner at the bottom of the window saying, "DirecTV dropped Nick! Call 800-531-5000 now to get it back!"
    • Another dispute between these two companies occurred in 2019, however a deal was reached before the channels were removed.[2]
  • This marathon started the premiere of season 9.
  • This was the first event to premiere an HD/1080p episode.
  • It is very likely that this sport-themed event was made to promote the 2012 Summer Olympics along with the SpongeBob sport toys that were being sold at McDonald's around the same time.
  • "Face Freeze!" was the only new episode that did not deal with sports or athletics.
