Biography

Brad Carow grew up in Los Angeles, born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. His father worked in the sound effects industry and got him into sound effects editing. It took about ten years for Carow to go from assistant to associate film editor, then to full fledged film editor. Carow was asked by the late Stephen Hillenburg, to write a theme song for the show that sounded like the theme to the sixties show, The Mod Squad. Hillenburg enjoyed his composition, but ultimately a different song was chosen due to executive decisions. Hillenburg knew Carow played the clarinet, and got him to improvise compositions for the show.

After 25 years in the film industry as a film editor and composer, he went back to school, receiving a masters' degree in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University, Los Angeles. Following a three-year internship, he received a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California. He still plays Squidward's clarinet when the show-runners need it for an episode. He now lives in Sitka, Alaska.
