Peter Bennett
Peter Bennett (July 19, 1967 – May 17, 2024; aged 56) was an art director who had worked on the show from 1999 until his death in 2024.
He was best known for being one of the main background painters in the series, throughout 182 episodes total between 1999 and 2014, as well as being the hand actor for the character Hans after "Suds" (although his voice is provided by Tom Kenny). Very little is known about him, despite being a crew member on the show from seasons 1 to 14.
Along with this, he was also known for being one of the main art directors for 161 episodes between 2005 and 2021, some including "Squeaky Boots," "SB-129," "Hooky," and "Wet Painters," and among many others. His acrylic paintings are immediately recognizable for long-time viewers of the show; they are mainly used for backgrounds, promotional materials, and especially detailed close-up shots.
He had also provided art direction for the show ChalkZone, the first two SpongeBob movies, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, and The Patrick Star Show, as well as artwork for SpongeBob Comics,[3][4] Nautical Nonsense: A Tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants, and San Diego Comic-Con 2016.[5][6]
Trivia
- The hour-long special "Kreepaway Kamp" is dedicated to him, as the message "In Loving Memory of Peter Bennett" appears at the end of the episode just before the closing credits. The dedication card to Peter Bennett at the end of "Kreepaway Kamp" is not on any DVD releases.[7] This is due to the DVD releases using an older print of "Kreepaway Kamp" that was fully completed before Peter Bennett's passing and had no dedication to him at the end as a result.[citation needed]
