Synopsis
The episode begins with a tired SpongeBob and Squidward exiting the Krusty Krab, and Mr. Krabs asks them their plans for the weekend. SpongeBob says he is polishing Gary's shell, proceeds to polish Squidward's face, and Squidward says he has a dance performance, then dances. Mr. Krabs invites them to Goo Lagoon to ride on a yacht instead, to which both accept. The next day, SpongeBob and Squidward arrive at Goo Lagoon, and Squidward questions where the yacht is. Krabs tells them that the yacht has to be built first, saying that SpongeBob and Squidward will build it, and he will "supervise," really taking a nap. Squidward takes off the steering wheel before they build the yacht's frame, and Squidward says "let's get this on with."
Then, Squidward tries to look for the instructions to build a yacht, and SpongeBob implies that he'll "find it," but many objects hit Squidward in the process. SpongeBob finds the instructions and Squidward tells him to give it him, but the instructions fly out of his hands and into Grubby Grouper's boat engine propeller. Squidward fails to get it, but SpongeBob tells him not to worry, he tells him that he and Squidward need to follow their hearts. They begin building the yacht and SpongeBob makes the yacht's mast, floating, but it falls onto Squidward pushing him into the ground. Squidward tells SpongeBob that he should start with the frame and SpongeBob pulls him out with a large hammer. They start building the frame with wooden planks but Squidward gets smacked in the face by a plank after bending it, causing him to get flung. SpongeBob tickles the wooden plank, making it laugh, then bend up. Squidward regrets that, but gets smacked again by the wooden plank. Many frame-building attempts later, they carry on trying to build the yacht, showing as if the yacht frame was not pre-made. SpongeBob says "we did it, Squidward! Put 'er there!," making Squidward handshake him, but the yacht frame collapses. Squidward dances to dodge the planks, but he gets hit by the last one, hitting Mr. Krabs' beach umbrella.
Squidward's head shows up inside of the umbrella, and Mr. Krabs growls at Squidward and asks him what he was doing, then he uses the plank to bonk his head. Squidward implies that he and SpongeBob were trying to build the yacht's frame, then Mr. Krabs takes out the pre-made yacht frame. SpongeBob gasps and Mr. Krabs tells him to "take a look into it," causing the pre-made yacht frame to go in his mouth, and stretch out. SpongeBob salutes Mr. Krabs, then he says "now, get back to work!" Mr. Krabs puts his umbrella back up, with Squidward stuck on top of it, and Squidward and SpongeBob carry on building the yacht with the pre-made frame.
After finishing the building, Squidward reels SpongeBob on the yacht with a fishing rod. SpongeBob asks Squidward if he's seen a safe, which then falls on Squidward. He tries to relax until Krabs reveals the intent to sell patties. SpongeBob opens a window and while Squidward complains, Patrick washes up on board and orders. SpongeBob serves him and he eats them through his snorkel, then gets back in the water. Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob start selling patties to all the beach-goers until they hit Bubble Bass. They serve him while they sink. Later in the day, the wise kraken lifts up from the water with the yacht in hand and tells the audience about it and the episode ends.

Trivia
General
- This episode was originally scheduled to premiere on Friday, November 18, 2022 in the United States at 7:00pm,[12][13] but it instead briefly got replaced with the premiere of the Monster High episode "Werewolf Weekend"[14] before being replaced again with the premiere of the 2021 Nickelodeon film PAW Patrol: The Movie.[15]
- In Latin America, this episode was also originally going to air on November 16, 2022 at 3:30pm, but was replaced with an airing of "Squidferatu." (re-air in Latin America, and premiere in Brazil). However, the episode was later rescheduled and premiered on the 18th in Brazil.
- If they kept the original US airdate, this would have been the first episode for Brazil to premiere the same date as its USA airing since "SpongeBob's Last Stand" on April 22, 2010.
- In Latin America, this episode was also originally going to air on November 16, 2022 at 3:30pm, but was replaced with an airing of "Squidferatu." (re-air in Latin America, and premiere in Brazil). However, the episode was later rescheduled and premiered on the 18th in Brazil.
- This episode's first American airing served as a lead-out to the Nickelodeon premiere of the 2015 Illumination Studios movie, Minions, while it served as a lead-in to the Nickelodeon premiere of the Rugrats reboot half-hour special, "Rescuing Cynthia."[16]
- There exists a version of this episode when Mr. Krabs pushed the box away revealing the "finished" ship, the animation of the box loops twice. This was fixed during the premiere and its subsequent reruns.
- The title card for this episode is similar to that of "Patrick the Mailman," except this one is on a pirate ship instead of a mailbox.
- SpongeBob's blue swim trunks make a return in this episode, having not been seen for 16 years since "Hocus Pocus."
- This is the first time "On The Beach" plays in a higher pitch since "Home Sweet Rubble".
- This is the first episode to use the original version of the track "Peg Leg Waltz" since "Salsa Imbecilicus."
- This is the seventh episode of the main SpongeBob SquarePants series to feature a character from a spin-off series. The first was "Something Narwhal This Way Comes," the second was "Upturn Girls," the third was "Slappy Daze," the fourth was "Welcome to Binary Bottom," the fifth was "You're Going to Pay...Phone," and the sixth was "A Skin Wrinkle in Time."
- The "The Next Morning" time card is reused from "You're Going to Pay...Phone," however, it is slightly zoomed in and contains contrast.
- Coincidentally, this episode began production right before "Pay...Phone," with this having the production code of #1323, and that having the production code of #1324, technically making it its first appearance.
- Mr. Krabs' episode-starring Krabby Patty-selling craft has various trivial quirks in of itself:
- The S.S. Sea-cret Formula's design is based on '30s yachts.[17]
- The idea for the ship being a giant model kit was also supposed to give off the idea that a human one had sunken into the ocean.[17]
- The "S.S." titling that was used for the boat was also used in promotional stands and posters for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, with SpongeBob and the gang in a boat featuring the text "S.S. Save Gary" engraved onto it.
- Despite Mr. Krabs being against "pre-made vessels," a part of the ship (the frame) is already pre-made.
Episode references
- When SpongeBob and Squidward meet Mr. Krabs outside of the Krusty Krab at night, Squidward dances in the same fashion that he does in "Culture Shock."
- This is the second episode to reference this dance, after "Pat Hearts Squid."
- The dance was also referenced in the credits for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
- This is the second episode to reference this dance, after "Pat Hearts Squid."
- After SpongeBob wipes Squidward's face clean, he looks somewhat similar to his baby self from "Squid Baby."
- SpongeBob also wipes his own face clean to a nice-looking effect in another episode from the same season, "There Will Be Grease."
- Two kids are seen playing in the orca kid's mouth, like they did in "SpongeGuard on Duty." The kids were Incidental 103 and Incidental 150 in "SpongeGuard on Duty" while in this episode the kids were Incidental 103 and Incidental 153.
- Squidward's vacation outfit in this episode is based on the one he wears at the end of "Plane to Sea."
- Incidental 46's seashell bra and sunglasses wearing variant from "Bubble Buddy" returns in this episode.
- Incidental 22, Loser 2, and Loser 3 can be seen hanging out at the beach together which references their role as playing together in the Beach Band in "Ripped Pants." However, Incidental 22 took the appearance of her normal variant instead of taking the appearance as Loser 1.
- The eel could also be seen eating ice cream, referencing his role in "Walking Small."
- When Mr. Krabs yells at Squidward for wasting his lumber, he stutters on the word "lumber" in a similar manner to PlanKrab, who appears in "The Krusty Bucket."
- The design of the boat rental stand was inspired by a painting of the Fun House from "Valentine's Day."[18]
- The painting of the Fun House was one of Ian Vazquez's favorite from the series, explaining its similarities and inclusion.[18]
- The showgirls found in the episode are the same as the one from "As Seen on TV."[1]
Cultural references
- This episode's title is a pun on the phrase "abandon ship(s)."
- Squidward's dance at the start of the episode, where he faces left and holds his arms at his sides while moving his legs wildly, is a reference to 5's in A Charlie Brown Christmas.
- When SpongeBob fails to hammer down a nail, he imitates one of The Three Stooges.
- When Squidward is hooked up from the sea by Mr. Krabs, he looks similar to a blobfish when it's taken out of the water.
- The kraken has the appearance and mannerisms of stand-up comedian Rodney Dangerfield.[19]
Errors
- When the ship frame expands inside of SpongeBob, his teeth turn transparent for a frame.
- When SpongeBob throws the paper shavings, his right eye turns yellow for a frame.
- When SpongeBob is caught by Squidward's hook, his nose turns transparent for a frame.
- In the Brazilian Portuguese and the Paramount+ Germany releases of this episode, when Mr. Krabs pushes the ship frame box to reveal the finished ship, the ending animation of the box being pushed loops twice.
- This error has since been corrected.[20]
