The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is a film based on Nickelodeon's hit TV show SpongeBob SquarePants. In this movie, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following the Flying Dutchman to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no sponge has gone before.
It will be the fourth main SpongeBob SquarePants film, and the sixth film in the franchise overall. It is set to be released in theaters in the United States and Canada on Friday, December 19, 2025, and several other countries in December 2025 and into 2026.

A teaser of the movie was posted by surfacing supervisor, Chris Gayton, on his ArtStation on January 25, 2025. A concept art from the movie was officially revealed during an interview with Collider.

Video game tie-ins and sponsorships
Titans of the Tide DLC
A DLC based off Search for SquarePants will be included in the season pass for Titans of the Tide. It will contains a costume pack and challenge levels based off the movie.[49]
SpongeBob Tower Defense sponsorship
In the Roblox experience SpongeBob Tower Defense, the trailer is sponsored and can be watched on a TV at The Reef Retreat during the Level Up with OLIPOP event. The TV area was moved to the entrance to the Challenge worlds to make room for the Kamp Koral event.
An in-game event based on the film's sponsored product Pineapple Paradise appeared from August 8 to August 17, 2025, based on the "Hunt For All 5 Cans" promotion.[50] Players were encouraged to complete quests and unlock all five can designs, which acted as food items to level up units. Also during the event, 5,000 players would receive a redeemable code for a free four-pack of the soda.[50]
Trivia
General
- This movie will mark the first piece of official media in the franchise in which the Flying Dutchman is not voiced by Brian Doyle-Murray, instead being voiced by Mark Hamill.
- His voice actor, Mark Hamill, also previously did the voice of The Moth in the Season 5 episode "Night Light" eighteen years before this movie premiered.
- This will be the first film to be release theatrically worldwide in 10 years since The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water due to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run releasing on Paramount+ and Netflix instead due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting the film's theatrical release.
- Due to his passing from ALS on November 26, 2018, this is the first mainline SpongeBob SquarePants movie to not have series creator Stephen Hillenburg involved in production in any way, shape, or form.
- This is the first movie since The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie to have SquarePants in the title and a lifeguard ring in the logo.
- The movie's plot confirms SpongeBob is traveling through the underworld to see the Flying Dutchman.
- This is similar to Legend of the Lost Spatula.
- This is the second movie in the series to have John Debney[51] handle the score, the first being The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
- Snoop Dogg, whose one of his songs were used in this film, had previously starred in the previous film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, where he had portrayed The Gambler.
- Coincidentally enough, this reveals that both Snoop Dogg and The Gambler co-exist in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe.
Cultural references
- One of the posters features SpongeBob and Patrick mimicking a pose that Jack and Rose make in the 1997 film Titanic.
- Similarly, said posters tagline, "Near, far, wherever the pirates arrr," is a parody of the line "Near, far, wherever you are" from the song "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, the main theme of Titanic.
- The Tweet unveiling this poster has the text "And it was all... yellow," referencing a lyric from Coldplay's 2000 song "Yellow."[52]

- This movie was supposed to release in Sweden on December 19, 2025 but was later pushed back to February 20, 2026.
- This movie was supposed to release in France on December 17, 2025 but was later pushed back to December 24.
