SpongeBob Simulator is a multiplayer online game created by Gamefam Studios under the name of "Gamefam x SpongeBob"[2] as the experience is officially licensed by Nickelodeon. It is available as an experience on the Roblox platform for 49 Robux. This game was made as a collaboration between Gamefam and Paramount Game Studios, a division of Paramount. It is a simulator game where the player gets better and stronger as time goes on by using their pets to destroy items, similar to other Roblox simulator games.

Characters

History

Around 2020-2021, Roblox has been removing unofficial SpongeBob SquarePants games from the Roblox platform via DMCA takedowns filtered by Paramount Global as well as famous SpongeBob SquarePants Roblox experiences such as "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Spongy Construction Project" which was high quality and very popular. Many people were upset and angry at Paramount for their copyright actions as there was a Gamefam criticism due to the Sonic Speed Simulator revamp and Gamefam developing SpongeBob Simulator but however, during the drama SpongeBob Simulator started development.

In February 2023, it was announced that Gamefam Studios partnered with Paramount Global and Nickelodeon and is bringing SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Roblox.[1] The names for the games are SpongeBob Simulator and TMNT: Battle Tycoon.

A first look image would be released by the RLBXNews Twitter on March 2, 2023.[4] Around this time many more leaks would show up on leak accounts, showing several early character models.

On September 9, 2023, the game was released in beta for 99 Robux and will soon be officially launching in the end of 2023.[1]

On October 7, 2023, the game is in second beta phase with its price being decreased to 49 Robux with Jellyfish Fields being released. Squidward's secrets was also released where the player will need to collect secrets to earn Primitive SpongeBob skin and the Le Spatula UGC item.

Gameplay

This game is built in the Roblox engine, which includes basic walk and jump mechanics. SpongeBob Simulator also plays as any normal Roblox simulator type game, with the player getting better and stronger as time goes on.

When the player first joins the game, they will spawn in the first section of Conch Street, with the rest being unlocked by using doubloons and rubies. These doubloons can be obtained by destroying several rocks, crates, chests, and drills throughout the map.

Buddies are the main way to progress through the game, in the game, you unlock several eggs, which are the way to obtain said buddies. They can be opened with a certain number of rings, as the eggs go on, they become much more expensive to purchase, although the stats of the buddies are much better in the more later and expensive eggs.

The player can also obtain skins, only consisting of SpongeBob and Patrick at the moment which the player needs to do quests to earn them. The player can also purchase a boatmobile for 249 Robux.

The game features 3 types of currency: Doubloons, Rubies, and Wacky Bucks. Doubloons can be obtained by destroying objects throughout each map, these include: Doubloon Piles, Lobster Traps, Chests, and Drills. Rubies can be obtained by destroying Ruby Piles, which spawn much less frequently as opposed to the other objects.

To destroy these objects, the player must collect Buddies, which are this games equivalent to pets you would usually see in other simulator games. To obtain these buddies, the player must go to the "Buddies" section in spawn, in which they will find several types of clams.

There are currently 9 clams available to purchase, which cost more Doubloons the more the player unlocks. After obtaining Buddies, if the player clicks on any of the object named above, the Buddies will run over to the specified object and start destroying it, after a while the object will be destroyed, granting the player Doubloons or Rubies. Keep in mind that the better stats the Buddy has, the faster the objects get destroyed.

The player can also upgrade their Buddies, by making them gold at Patrick's Golden Lab, where the player inserts a certain amount of the same Buddy, with a 20% chance of turning gold, this process also costs Rubies.

Walkthrough

Glitches

Map clipping

When users go into different areas in maps, they can noclip through different parts of the map and through different levels, leaving them stuck there until the player resets their character, warps to a unlocked zone if previously purchased with Rubies prior, or leaves the game.

Infinite jump

The player can jump infinitely by switching their avatar and skins over and over, this can be used to get over several barriers and invisible walls. This glitch has later been patched in newer updates when one second cooldowns for skin switching was added.

Boatmobile noclipping

Although when players try to spawn boatmobiles near invisible walls or any walls, it will always fail but when they are near a wall sometimes, they can spawn the boatmobile near the invisible wall and use it to noclip.

Pets duplicate

The player's pets follows them all the time. But when they are still, the can glitch and duplicate having two of the pets but the duplicate pets will not follow the player. The pets can sometimes be seen without their user when said user leaves the experience.

Ground clipping

In different parts of the map, there are possibilities of going under the ground unintentionally, leaving the player stuck under the ground until the player resets their character or leaves the game.

Character models

In certain models in the game, character models won't load in the correct manner it was intended to. This is usually caused by bad internet connections or modeling errors. This glitch can also happen when the player uses the "/e dance" emote.

Walk on water glitch

While the player can sometimes drown in the water, the player can always walk on top of it without having to respawn or swim in it. Users use this glitch to find hidden easter eggs such as the cave.

Vehicle driving run

While usually when the player enters their vehicle, the player is put in the driving animation, but if the player enters the vehicle in a certain way, the player will be put in the run state.

Emotes glitch

When using emotes, the player can use them to glitch into unfinished/locked worlds.

Ground flying

When the player is able to get next to the roof of some sort of enclosed building, the player is able to go in-between the roof and the barrier, allowing the player to surf across the roof. This glitch can mostly be performed in the cave and dungeon.

Blood sky

Sometimes when the player loads into SpongeBob Simulator, the sky will be dark red, which has a very Halloween type aesthetic, although it is most likely a glitch.

Patrick's Golden Lab glitch

The player can push Patrick's gold lab to other places around the map, this is likely due to it not being anchored.

Playable characters

  • SpongeBob SquarePants: Unlockable by completing quests in zone 2 of Conch Street.
  • Patrick Star: Unlockable by using 2,000 Wacky Bucks.
  • Squidward Tentacles: Squidward can be obtainable by doing quests in zone 3 of Jellyfish Fields.
  • Sandy Cheeks: Unlockable by using 3,000 Wacky Bucks.
  • Primitive SpongeBob: Unlockable by completing Squidward's Secrets.

Playable locations

  • Conch Street: The first level in the game.
    • Zone 1: It is the first level received for free.
    • Zone 2: It can be unlocked for 25,000 doubloons.
    • Zone 3: It can be unlocked for over 300,000 doubloons.
  • Jellyfish Fields: The second level in the game.
    • Zone 1: It can be unlocked for 3,000,500 Doubloons.
    • Zone 2: It can be unlocked for 18 million Doubloons.
    • Zone 3: It can be unlocked for 100,000,600 million Doubloons.
  • Downtown Bikini Bottom: The third level in the game.

Items

Destroyable items

  • Wooden chests: They are brown chests that can be destroyable as the easy ones are small and the hard ones are big. They can be destroyed by using pets.
  • Rocks: They are brown rocks with coral, doubloons, and rubies as those can easily be destroyed. They can be destroyed by using pets.
  • Plankton drills: They are green Plankton-like drills that can be destroyed. They can be destroyed by using pets.

Currency items

  • Doubloons: The player needs to collect those to unlock more parts of the game. They can be used to unlock pets, clam eggs, zones, and more as they are obtainable from destroying items.
  • Rubies: They are red diamond-like rubies as the player needs to collect those to unlock teleporting to zones, using Plankton's power ups, merging buddies, and more as they are obtainable from destroying items.
  • Wacky Bucks: They are a currency item that can be obtainable by doing jobs in the game and can unlock playable characters such as Patrick Star.

Other items

  • Boatmobile: It is used as a mount to drive the player around zones to collect doubloons faster.

Reception

During its beta release, this game has been criticized for being a reference to another popular Roblox simulator game called Pet Simulator X as well as stating that the 3D models for SpongeBob and Patrick were uncanny/off model. The game was also praised for its colorful art style and addicting gameplay. This experience has over 10,000 visits, 1,000 favorites, 200 likes, and 30 dislikes.

  • The game currently has a beta level before its official release.
  • A model for SpongeBob before the release can be found in the files.
  • In the first look screenshot, the road can be seen very black but was changed before its beta release.

    • But however, the Nickverse game was shut down on October 5, 2023.

  • The type for this game is a simulator which is a reference to other Roblox simulator games except that it is SpongeBob-themed such as its purpose which is using SpongeBob characters as pets and using them to destroy items using function similarly to Pet Simulator and Angry Birds Mayhem Simulator.
  • Some of the user-generated content (UGC) a Roblox user wears in SpongeBob Simulator are references to other media that is not SpongeBob-related.

Errors

  • In the main menu, the Bikini Atoll sky background uses the flower clouds background.
  • The dark green path circles in the path to SpongeBob's house are missing.
  • If one looks into SpongeBob's house from the leaves on top, the concrete can be seen as floor inside.
    • This error has later been fixed in a September 2023 update.
  • One of the invisible walls blocking the way to zones ends at gaps where the player can discover unfinished worlds such as Jellyfish Fields and Downtown Bikini Bottom.
  • When the Kah-Rah-Tay SpongeBob pet shows it name, the "SpongeBob" bit in the name in both normal and golden variants is improperly capitalized as "Spongebob."
  • When SpongeBob uses his fall animation, his eyelashes are missing.
  • When SpongeGar shows his name, the "Gar" in the name is improperly capitalized as "Spongegar."
