Template:Classification Blue jellyfish are a rare species of jellyfish that are known for being difficult to catch. Jellyfish Fields is home to only one known blue jellyfish, Friend, formerly known as "No-Name." Blue jellyfish also appear in some video games.
Description
Blue jellyfish are very rare. They are known to be very agile, fast and stealthy, and they create blue jelly instead of purple or pink like the normal jellyfish.
Role in series
"Jellyfish Hunter"
SpongeBob tries to capture one he calls "No-Name" at the start of the episode but fails. Later, No-Name follows SpongeBob to his house, captures him, and takes him to Mr. Krabs' factory. No-Name and SpongeBob stop Template:Data:Links from using the jellyfish SpongeBob captured for his own ends, and set all the jellyfish free. No-Name then willingly enters SpongeBob's net, and SpongeBob calls the blue jellyfish "Friend."
"Squirrel Jelly"
Friend can be seen among many other jellyfish.
Role in video games
SpongeBob's Jellyfishin' Game
Revenge of the Flying Dutchman
Battle for Bikini Bottom (Rehydrated)
In the console versions of the original game and all versions of Rehydrated, blue-indigo jellyfish appear only at Spork Mountain within Jellyfish Fields, first at the mountain's peak, summoned along with pink jellyfish by King Jellyfish during the fight with him, and then later wild at the foot. They are more dangerous than ordinary jellyfish, stinging SpongeBob after he is next to them for a much shorter time.
In the original console game, blue jellyfish must be hit twice to be defeated, as opposed to ordinary jellyfish which only need hit to be hit once.
In Rehydrated, blue jellyfish only need to be hit once, but their radius of stinging the player is larger compared to ordinary jellyfish.
Lights, Camera, Pants!
In the console version, the challenges "Jellyfish Jamboree" and "Jellyfish Swish" both involve catching blue (along with pink and orange) jellyfish. Catching blue jellyfish nets the lowest amount of points in both these challenges. Jellyfish can also be colored blue by a blue team in "The Tide Piper" challenge.
SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis
Blue jellyfish appear as one of many color variations of jellyfish in the Nintendo DS version. Blue jellyfish are also mentioned during SpongeBob's Director's Commentary for the "Snap Happy!" level in the console version.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl
The Jellyfish Jelly item spawns five Jellyfish that will sting opponents. Very rarely, the middle one will be blue. Based on its rarity, it can be assumed this is Friend.
The Patrick Star Game
They appear in Jellyfish Fields and are also one of the baby jellyfishes. They make Patrick fly whenever he holds on to them and squirts jelly out of them.
Trivia
- Blue jellyfish do exist in real life, also referred to as "bluefire jellyfish," scientifically known as "Cyanea lamackarii."
- Neither SpongeBob nor any other character has ever been seen eating jelly from a blue jellyfish. Although SpongeBob was almost about to eat a blue jelly patty before opening his eyes and realizing what it is, not eating it due to its appearance.
