Season 11
The eleventh season of the American animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants, created by former marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, was announced on February 16, 2016.[1]
A total of 26 half-hour episodes were produced for this season, bringing the number of episodes up to 241. Season 11 was confirmed to be in production by Nickelodeon on March 2, 2016.[2]
Season 11 premiered on June 24, 2017 with "Spot Returns" and "The Check-Up" and ended on November 25, 2018 with "Goons on the Moon."
The season was released on DVD on March 31, 2020, one year and four months after it had completed its broadcast on television.
Production
Production for this season began on March 2, 2016. Starting in March 2017, Hena Hong worked freelance as a background painter for episodes in this season.[3]
On May 15, 2017, Vincent Waller released three screenshots from a future season 11 episode on Twitter.[4] They later turned out to be from "There's a Sponge in My Soup."
On May 16, 2017, Vincent Waller released another screenshot from a future season 11 episode.[5] It later turned out to be from "Pat the Horse."
On August 23, 2017, Vincent Waller released two storyboard images from a future season 11 episode storyboarded by John Trabbic. It was later revealed to be from the episode "Call the Cops."[6]
On March 28, 2018, Vincent Waller released another storyboard from a future season 11 episode.[7] It later turned out to be from "Library Cards."

Trivia
- This season made SpongeBob SquarePants the first (and only) Nicktoon to make it past ten seasons, since Rugrats ended at its ninth season on August 1, 2004, and The Fairly OddParents ended at its tenth season on July 26, 2017.
- This is the second season to have an episode fully animated in stop-motion, this episode being "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom," with the first being season 8 with "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!"
- Although the series is primarily script-driven during this season, two episode segments were storyboard-driven (where the storyboard artists also contributed to the writing). These episodes are "Shopping List" and "The String."
- There were also an episode where the storyboard contributed to the script, causing the storyboard director to get another credit as a writer, with that being "Bubbletown."[35][36]
- One of these are unknown to be either storyboard or script-driven, being "Krabby Patty Creature Feature."[35][36]
- This season has the most fourth wall breaks, with a total of 35.
- This is the first season not to play "Hawaiian Cocktail."
- While some countries aired this season in its original NTSC pitch and speed, airings of "Surf N' Turf" in the UK, as well as some airings of episodes from "Chatterbox Gary" to "The String" in Latin America, Brazil and Japan were aired with PAL-pitched audio. Unlike the UK, these three countries also aired the episodes at NTSC speed.
- This is the 6th season where the first episode to air isn’t the first episode in production order.
