— Richard, "Graveyard Shift"
Character

Richard,[1][2][3] also known as Incidental 189,[4] the slasher, and the DOA small guy,[5][6][7] is a minor character who first appears in the episode "Graveyard Shift."

Description

Richard's older model pose where he has an open smiling mouth, a lazy eye, and holds his spatula in his hand.

He is an odd-looking light green fish with pimples and two dark green dinosaur-like spikes on his back. He wears round glasses and a purple shirt. He also has a large nose with two nostrils located on the front that resemble angry eyes. Incidental 189 has the same appearance as Richard, and his incidental type is currently unknown.

The slasher

The slasher.

He takes an appearance similar to the hash-slinging slasher, appearing as a black shadowy hunchback figure with angry red eyes, which is actually his nose and nostrils glowing red. He also holds a gray spatula which was presumed to be a replacement for his hand.

He wears a dark red robe that conceals most of his face, revealing only white colored eyes. He also wears a rope belt and has realistic hands with long finger nails.

Names

  • The name Richard was used for this character before he alternatively became Incidental 189. It was used for him in the production, (DVD-viewable) script, and credits of "Graveyard Shift."

He calls on the phone at the Krusty Krab, but hangs up because he is nervous. He is later dropped off by a bus and comes into the Krusty Krab, whereupon Squidward and SpongeBob think he is the hash-slinging slasher. When it is revealed that he is not, he explains that he is looking for a job application at the Krusty Krab, having brought his own spatula. He then laughs with the duo at the end at Nosferatu flickering the lights in the restaurant.

"Snooze You Lose"

He is one of the various people near the bus stop who shockingly watch SpongeBob and Patrick from inside Squidward.

Trivia

  • Instead of the hash-slinging slasher replacing his left hand with a rusty spatula, he is actually holding a spatula, his sleeves are just too long making it look like the rusty spatula replaces his left hand.
  • He, Incidental 51, and Incidental 220 are the only known regular incidentals who actually have noses instead of just nostrils.
  • He and Incidental 165 are the only incidentals within the 159-189 range who debuted in the first two seasons.
  • He was seen at the Krusty Krab trying to apply for a job only one time in "Graveyard Shift." It's unknown if he got the job or not.
