Characters

Synopsis

Patrick and Squidina are playing around on the Patrick Show. The show zooms out to show Mr. Krabs in an empty restaurant. Before he can change the channel, Old Man Walker protests and says that he likes it. He then imitates one of Patrick's jokes, and Mr. Krabs realizes that people will buy from his restaurant if he advertises on the show. Plankton, who had been spying on Krabs, decides to compete and get his own advertising.

Back on Patrick's show, Mr. Krabs shows up to advertise the Krusty Krab. Squidina is concerned because Plankton already reserved a spot at the time. Plankton shows up and takes over, putting up his own poster. Krabs and Plankton start an argument over whose restaurant is better. Patrick and Squidina interrupt and tell them to take turns.

Patrick suddenly calls in a Captain Quasar cartoon. It turns out to be an advertisement for the Krusty Krab, featuring Quasar and Pat-Tron venturing to a delicious Krabby Patty-themed planet and eating its food. Plankton interrupts and insults the cartoon, taking control of Pat-Tron and attacking Quasar. He calls in a new cartoon, Pat the Hapless, where a barbarian Patrick stops at a cave restaurant and faces off against a giant, Mr. Krabs-like monster. Pat is losing the fight, when Plankton rides in and feeds him a bucket of chum, giving him the strength to defeat the monster. Krabs interrupts the segment by smashing a Krabby Patty into the characters.

Squidina questions if the ads are working. Back downtown, the Chum Bucket and Krusty Krab have many potential customers, but since neither restaurant owner is there, the customers are still left hungry. Krabs and Plankton suggest their own advertising positions for Patrick. Squidina decides to host a musical number instead. Plankton gives Patrick a song that turns out to be an advertising jingle for the Chum Bucket. Krabs interrupts and gives him a Krusty Krab song instead. Krabs and Plankton's resulting argument destroys the set and launches Patrick and Squidina outside.

Downtown, many hungry people wait outside the restaurants. Squidina gets an idea: she gives the show to Krabs and Plankton. Slappy shows up and gives them a sponsor, which is for a restaurant run by Patrick and Squidina, which serves rocks covered in jelly. Plankton comments that he is hungry, when Patrick jumps in and throws jelly rocks at both of them. He gives a disclaimer, "Not responsible for shattered teeth!", and smiles to show his broken teeth forming the words "The End."

Trivia

General

  • This episode may have originally been called "The Patrick Star Show Sells Out,"[4] with the only difference being that the word "Star" was in the title.
  • This episode was paired up with a rerun of "The Prehistoric Patrick Star Show" during the original airing, but has since been re-airing with "Neptune's Ball."[12]
  • In the UK and Ireland, Patrick's line "Then drag yourself down to Patrick's Jelly Rock Shack!" was cut due to a fast-motion spinning effect on screen when the line is said.[13]
  • This episode marks the first time that Pat the Hapless is shown as a segment on Patrick's show. Prior, he had only appeared in comics and time-traveling segments.
  • On his commercial, Patrick can be seen physically pushing the television static off-screen, rather than it disappearing gradually.
