Trivia

General

  • Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies were individual VHS tapes whose episodes collectively were included on this DVD. The tapes and DVD were first released on the same day.
  • The front cover is shared with the Nautical Nonsense VHS tape.
  • The cover is based on the episode "Ripped Pants."
  • The back cover of this DVD contains pictures from these episodes:
  • The screenshots used on the back cover of this DVD are promo art images and not actual episode images. Here are those promo art images and what episodes they represent:

Metropolis DVD logo.
  • This is the only SpongeBob DVD for several things:
    • The only SpongeBob DVD to use the Paramount logo from 1986 in the opening.
    • The only SpongeBob DVD to be made by the Metropolis DVD company.[3][4] As a result, the Metropolis DVD logo is used at the end of the credits on this DVD and is seen on the disc label. Despite this, the Paramount logo still appears in the opening, and on the physical disc itself.
    • The only SpongeBob DVD to have the oval Nickelodeon logo in the opening.
    • The only SpongeBob DVD to be produced in 2001.
  • This is one of two SpongeBob DVDs only to have a shadow under the oval Nickelodeon logo. The other one is Lost at Sea.
  • This is one of two SpongeBob DVDs only to have the Paramount warning screens from 1999-2002. The other one is Nickelodeon DVD Sampler. The warnings had mostly been retired by this point.
  • This is one of three non-season/non-movie SpongeBob DVDs released in Region 2 between 2003 to 2008 to have special features. The other two are Halloween and Lost in Time.
  • This DVD has been re-released in both the UK and Australia.
  • Some foreign re-releases of this DVD are simply titled "Nautical Nonsense."
  • The Philippine version of this DVD has the title swapped into "Sponge Buddies and Nautical Nonsense."
  • In the Belgium and Swiss markets, it was only sold in French speaking markets. Despite this, it has no red oval with TOUS text.
  • Despite the DVD cover being based on Ripped Pants, the Nordic version doesn’t include the actual episode.

Errors

Closed-captioning on this DVD.
  • In all Nickelodeon USA, Nicktoons USA, Nick@Nite, UK airings[5] of the episode "Something Smells" along with the iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount+ digital versions, SpongeBob walks up to a building and says, "Hi, building!" which causes the building to flee from SpongeBob's breath. He goes up to Patrick and says, "I just don't get it!" and Patrick says, "I don't either."
    • On this and all other DVD releases, the Nautical Nonsense and Undersea Antics Volume 1 VHS tapes, the Nick Scene It? DVD game, the VideoNow disc, the It's a SpongeBob Christmas! Blu-ray, Canadian airings on YTV and Nickelodeon Canada, Polish airings, French airings, Australian airings, and Arab airings, the scene instead goes like this:
    • SpongeBob: [walks up to a building and waves] I just don't get it! [the building flees]
    • Patrick: [off-screen] I don't, either. [SpongeBob walks up to Patrick; the rest of the scene goes as normal, resulting in the same lines being repeated]. According to the audio commentary on The Complete 2nd Season DVD, this was a sound mixing error. The music also repeats itself incorrectly at that point. It is made obvious since SpongeBob's mouth still clearly says the intended line. However, the closed-captioning on this DVD still uses the original correct line while being written in all caps.
  • In "Ripped Pants," SpongeBob wears underwear under his swimsuit, but on the cover of this DVD, he does not have underwear on.

"The Graveyard Shift" credits.
  • "Graveyard Shift" is listed as "The Graveyard Shift" on the back cover of this DVD, the episode selection screen, and the closing credits.
  • The episode selection screen for the first five episodes has a sand border on the far right of the screen, not present anywhere else.
    • This was fixed in the French version of this DVD.
  • On the back cover of this DVD and the disc itself, the running time is stated to be 123 minutes, but it is actually 120 minutes. This mistake is probably due to the 123 minutes being multiplied from the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies VHS tapes which are both 61 minutes. While both tapes include the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song, this DVD only includes it once. It also lacks the previews, as noted above.
  • Sandy's eyelashes are seen in the front cover when she laughs and closes her eyes, even though her eyelashes are not suppose to be seen when she closes her eyes.
    • This happens on the Nautical Nonsense VHS tape.
