The Complete First Season is the re-release of the SpongeBob SquarePants DVD box set The Complete 1st Season that was released on November 13, 2012. Like the original DVD box set, it contains all 40 episodes from season 1, except for "Help Wanted."

"Help Wanted," the pilot episode of the series, was not included on this DVD box set due to copyright issues with Tiny Tim's song "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" being played in this episode. According to Derek Drymon, this is because Nickelodeon did not want to pay Tiny Tim's estate for the rights.^[1] However, it is included as a bonus feature on disc 3 of The Complete 3rd Season, 10 Happiest Moments, and The Third & Fourth Seasons DVDs. It is also available as a normal episode on various physical and digital releases.
- This is the first time an episode from a season is excluded from a SpongeBob SquarePants season DVD box set release, the second being "Kwarantined Krab," from The Complete Twelfth Season DVD.
At some point in 2014, this DVD set and The Complete Second Season were released together in a bundle called the 2-Season pack.
- On February 5, 2018, this DVD set and The Complete Second Season were released together again in a bundle called The First & Second Seasons.
  - On June 11, 2019, this DVD set and The SpongeBob Movie Collection were released together yet again in a bundle called Movies & TV Collection.
On the DVD description on the backside, the following episodes are referenced:
- "Bubblestand" - "learn the technique to blow the perfect bubble"
- "F.U.N." - "sing "The F.U.N. Song""
- "Hooky" - "ride the hooks"
- "The Paper" - "turn a gum wrapper into a gold mine of entertainment"
On the Australian version, the only bonus features included are "The Origin of SpongeBob SquarePants" special and "Sing-a-long with SpongeBob SquarePants."

In the episode selection on disc 3, the image for "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II" is not from that episode. The image is actually from "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III," which is not on this DVD box set.
- This error also happens on the Lost at Sea DVD.

In the closing credits for "Reef Blower" and "Tea at the Treedome," Bill Fagerbakke's name is misspelled as "Bill Faberbakke."
