Trivia
General
- "Whale of a Birthday," the sister episode to this DVD's namesake episode, also got a DVD of its own.
- The back cover of this DVD contains pictures from the episodes "SquidBob TentaclePants" and "Karate Island."
- Advertisements in this DVD case are advertisements for other Nickelodeon DVDs and VHS tapes (also known as "videos") for SpongeBob SquarePants: Lost in Time (VHS and DVD), Where's Gary? (VHS and DVD), Absorbing Favorites (VHS and DVD), The Complete 3rd Season (DVD only), and Nick Picks Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4 (DVD only). On the other side is another ad for other Nickelodeon DVDs and VHS tapes for Avatar: The Last Airbender: Book 1: Water, Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4 (DVD only), Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2 (VHS and DVD), The Fairly OddParents: Fairy Idol (VHS and DVD), Drake & Josh: Go Hollywood - The Movie (VHS and DVD), and Zoey 101: Spring Break-Up (VHS and DVD).
- This DVD includes previews for other Nickelodeon DVDs. These include older SpongeBob SquarePants DVDs, Nick Picks DVDs, and Rugrats Tales from the Crib: Three Jack's and a Beanstalk DVD.
- Beginning with this DVD, there are no longer VHS counterparts due to the fact that VHS was discontinued in 2006 by most major American companies. The last ever VHS tape for this series in the United States was Lost in Time.
- The uncut version of "Karate Island" is included on this DVD, as the dedication card at the end was later removed from American television airings after the Best Day Ever marathon.
- "New Leaf" was released on this DVD two months before premiering on American television on September 22, 2006.
- Some copies of this DVD have a bonus Nick Arcade Games CD.
- This is the first SpongeBob DVD for two things:
- The first karate-themed SpongeBob DVD. The second is Extreme Kah-Rah-Tay.
- The first SpongeBob DVD to have a PG rating from the BBFC, due to mildly scary scenes in "Ghost Host."
- In the Arabic release, this is technically the first SpongeBob DVD that they ever made in that country and released on April 7, 2009. This DVD predates the Arabic version of Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies by one year.
- This DVD was re-released twice in Australia and Germany.
- At some point in 2009 in Australia, this DVD and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie were released together in a bundle called Double Feature Volume 1.
Errors
- On the Australia release, for unknown reasons, the disc reads "Nick Jr. DVD" instead of "Nick DVD."
- This also happens on all copies of Nick Picks Volume 1 and some copies of Nick Picks Volume 2.
