SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric is a SpongeBob SquarePants VHS tape that was released on March 9, 2004 and contains two episodes from season 1, one episode from season 2, and one episode from season 3.

The cover of this VHS tape is based on the episode "Ugh."
Patar's clothes appear different on the cover of this VHS tape.
The back cover of this VHS tape contains pictures from these episodes:
- "Ugh"
- "Nature Pants"
- "I'm with Stupid"
The VHS contains four episodes instead of five, because the first episode, "Ugh," is a double-length episode.
This VHS tape includes previews for various shows and other Nickelodeon DVDs and VHS tapes. These include The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, older SpongeBob SquarePants DVDs and VHS tapes, The Fairly OddParents DVDs and VHS tapes, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius DVDs and VHS tapes, Rugrats Go Wild DVD and VHS tape, and G.I. Joe: Valor vs. Venom.
This is the first SpongeBob SquarePants VHS release where the Nickelodeon logo is shortened to "Nick" on the front cover.
This is the last SpongeBob VHS tape to be released in the Netherlands.
This is the only VHS tape where SpongeBob doesn't appear on the front cover, but instead one of his prehistoric ancestors does.
There is a DVD version of this VHS tape that was released on the same day.
- The UK version has the same amount of episodes as the DVD, but the U.S. version of the VHS tape has less episodes.

SpongeGar has two sleeves on the front cover artwork of this VHS tape, while he only has one in the actual episode (on his left arm).
- This also happens on the DVD cover.
- The error was corrected in a "How to draw SpongeGar" page in the March 2004 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine.
SpongeBob in his "modern" appearance appears on the spine instead of SpongeGar.
