- This DVD's name is the same as the episode it is based on, except it adds an extra "s" to "Ghoul."
- The only preview is for the It's a SpongeBob Christmas! DVD and Blu-ray.
- All of the episodes on this DVD feature the Flying Dutchman.
- This DVD has episodes from all of the Flying Dutchman appearances up to season 8, except for "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" and "Scaredy Pants" in season 1 and "SpongeBob SquarePants vs. The Big One" in season 6.
- Season 6 is the only season from the first eight that does not have an episode on this DVD.
- This is the first SpongeBob SquarePants DVD in North America to not contain any special features.
- This is the third time that Sheldon J. Plankton doesn't appear in any of the episodes featured on this DVD. The first was Whale of a Birthday DVD and the second was Heroes of Bikini Bottom.
- This DVD was re-released in the SpongeBob ScaryPants Collection DVD box set on September 9, 2014.
- On the international releases, "The Curse of Bikini Bottom" is replaced with "Shanghaied." However, "The Curse of Bikini Bottom" was later featured on the Bikini Bottom Buddies DVD in those countries.
- The Fanboy & Chum-Chum episode "There Will Be Shrieks" is included as a bonus feature on international releases.
- The international DVD description respectively references "Ghoul Fools," "Arrgh!," "Your Shoe's Untied," and "Shanghaied."
- The Amazon description respectively references "Ghoul Fools," "Your Shoe's Untied," and "Arrgh!," while the iTunes description references every episode on the release.
- The UK version is rated U for "no material likely to offend or harm," even though this DVD contains the episode "Ghost Host" which was previously rated PG on the Karate Island and season 4 DVDs for "mildly scary scenes."
- In the Japanese release, "Bubble Troubles," "Planet of the Jellyfish," "Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up is Go!," and "Treats!" are included, replacing all episodes except the titular one.[2]
- The Japanese release of the DVD is the only single-disc DVD to include the episode "Treats!"
Errors
- The description for "The Curse of Bikini Bottom" says that SpongeBob and Patrick disturbed the Flying Dutchman's slumber. This is wrong, because they cut off his beard and did not disturb his slumber.
- The back of the DVD says the description for "Shanghaied" instead of "Born Again Krabs."
