Whale of a Birthday is a SpongeBob SquarePants DVD that was released on October 31, 2006 and contains seven episodes from season 4. The DVD title is based on the episode of the same name.

General
- "Karate Island," the sister episode to this DVD's namesake episode, also got a DVD of its own.
- The cover for the North American release is the only cover that's different internationally.
- On the international covers, the title font color is changed to green.
- On the international and VCD covers, Patrick and Gary are seen, both of whom are not on the North American DVD cover, nor are they in the "Whale of a Birthday" episode.
- The back cover of this DVD contains pictures from these episodes:
- Advertisements in this DVD case is an ad for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Album and The Best Day Ever albums. On the other side is an ad for SpongeBob SquarePants books.
- This DVD includes previews for other Nickelodeon and Paramount DVDs. These include older SpongeBob DVDs, Nick Picks DVDs, Avatar: The Last Airbender: Book 1: Water, Volumes 1-5 and The Complete Book 1 Collection DVDs, Rugrats Tales from the Crib: Three Jack's and a Beanstalk DVD, and G.I. - Eugene H. Krabs appears in every episode of this DVD except for "Chimps Ahoy."
- "Wigstruck" and "That's No Lady" were released on this DVD before premiering on American television.
- Despite the clips in the "Your Brain on SpongeBob" section, "Jellyfishing," "Suds," "SB-129," 'F.U.N.," and "The Bully" are all not on this DVD.
- Of the five episodes with the clips, "The Bully" is the only one that is not from season 1.
- This is the first time that Sheldon J. Plankton doesn't appear in any of the episodes featured on this DVD.
- This is the last single-disc SpongeBob DVD to include only season 4 episodes.
- This DVD was re-released on the Triple Pack 1 DVD along with SpongeBob's WhoBob WhatPants? and SpongeBob's Truth or Square on March 13, 2012.
- On March 2, 2015 in Russian, this DVD, Tales from the Deep, SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric, and SpongeGuard on Duty were released together in a bundle called the Favorite Episodes.
- The Dutch version of this DVD has an exclusive Stichting Brein final slide. It's the prototype of the fifth warning.
Errors
- The DVD description for "Wigstruck" shown on the back cover, as well as TV descriptions for said episode states that SpongeBob found a wig in the trash. However, in the actual episode, it was flying through the air smacking him in the face.
