Battle for Bikini Bottom (PC)

Template:VTab Template:Video game The PC version of Battle for Bikini Bottom is a SpongeBob SquarePants video game developed by AWE Games. Unlike its home console counterpart, this game is a point-and-click mini-game adventure. Various characters are playable depending on the minigame, including Template:Data:Links and Gary the Snail.

Plot

The game's story is very similar to that of its console counterpart. After Template:Data:Links created an army of robots using his robot generator, he delivered a speech on how he would use them to conquer Bikini Bottom. But the robots instead decide to disobey him and leave the restaurant. Meanwhile, SpongeBob and Template:Data:Links are having a tea party with toy robots. SpongeBob then gathers all the toy robots and wishes on the first falling clam that robots "were people too." The next morning, a robot suddenly bursts into SpongeBob's bedroom. SpongeBob then finds out that the entire town is being attacked by an army of robots.

After saving his friends while traveling through Downtown Bikini Bottom, Kelp Forest, Mermalair, Flying Dutchman's Graveyard, and the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob and Patrick arrive at the Chum Bucket's lab, where they find Plankton. SpongeBob asks Plankton how to stop the robots from destroying Bikini Bottom, but Plankton reveals that the only way to stop this is to turn the "Obey" switch on. Patrick then accidentally messes with the lever and destroys the robot generator, deactivating all of the robots at the same time. Declaring the "Battle for Bikini Bottom" to be finally over, SpongeBob and Patrick leave the Chum Bucket. Plankton then says that he will be back with another plan.

  • Traffic Jam - A game similar to Frogger where the player navigates through a bustling street, avoiding the cars driven by Plankton's robots and collecting items that count towards a goal in order to complete the level.
  • Manhole Memory - A memory matching game where the player must match together characters from the show as well as robots.
  • Patrick Trivia - A trivia game where an announcer robot asks SpongeBob trivia questions that he must answer correctly in order to free Patrick from a cage.
  • Robot Alley - A game in which the player is running down an alley, avoiding or attacking robots with projectiles and collecting items that count towards a goal in order to complete the level.
  • The Magic Shop - A game in which the player must place the items that they collected from the previous levels in their correct positions inside of a magic shop. The player is hinted as to what belongs where with collections that seem to be missing a piece or an obvious space where something is missing.
  • Bowling Buddies - A game in which SpongeBob and Patrick go bowling, but with Patrick using SpongeBob as the bowling ball. In the electronic display, whenever events such as strikes, spares, or splits happen, the screen will display a representation of what happened by using robots as replacements for pins.

Development

General

• An early version of the title screen exists in the game files. The only differences between the final versions is the "Chum Bucket" text, which uses a different font. Interestingly, this version of the title screen can be seen in the game's manual.

Prerelease

• The game was originally planned to have hub worlds instead of a level selection screen. According to a moderator on IGN, each world had four "doors" for the main minigames and a fifth one was somewhere hidden. Only screenshots of the hub worlds of Bikini Bottom Downtown, Chum Bucket, Dutchman's Graveyard and Kelp Forest exist.

• This version of this game is supported by any Windows device that can run older Windows programs.
• This is the third licensed SpongeBob video game to be developed by AWE Games. The first was Operation Krabby Patty, and the second was Employee of the Month.
• The Russian version was produced in February 2008, but went on sale only in 2010.
  • The release was originally planned for March 2008. The reasons for the long delay are unknown.

• This version of the game was originally sold for the MSRP price of $19.99 upon release.

Episode references

• When one of the robots throws a crumpled up piece of paper at Plankton, Plankton says, "You [dolphin chirp] robots!" This is a reference to the episode "Sailor Mouth."
