Trivia

General

  • The cover of this VHS tape is based on the episode "Ripped Pants." However, in the actual "Ripped Pants" episode, SpongeBob wears underwear under his swimsuit, but on the cover of this VHS tape, he does not have underwear on.
  • The front cover is shared with the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD.
  • The back cover of this VHS tape contains pictures from the episodes "SB-129" and "Texas."
  • The screenshots used on the back of this VHS tape are promo art images and not actual episode images. Here are those promo art images and what episodes they represent:
  • The episodes on this VHS tape and Sponge Buddies make up the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD, which has the same release date as both of those VHS tapes.
  • This also makes up the Undersea Antics Volume 1 VHS.
  • This VHS tape includes previews for SpongeBob SquarePants: Nautical Nonsense, Sponge Buddies, and Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies on VHS and DVD, Rugrats: Decade in Diapers Volumes 1 and 2 VHS tapes, and Nickelodeon "Maze" bumper ID.
    • The previews from this VHS tape are the same exact previews as SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Buddies 2002 VHS tape.

  • This VHS tape and Sponge Buddies are the first SpongeBob VHS tapes to use the Paramount logo from 1986 in the opening, but not the last.
  • "Graveyard Shift" was released on this VHS tape and the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD six months before premiering on American television.
  • The trailer for this and Sponge Buddies on VHS and DVD include clips from "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy," "Plankton!," and "Dumped," even though those episodes are not included on either of these VHS tapes or the DVD mentioned above.

Errors

  • The closing credits for "SB-129" have Clancy Brown credited as playing Mr. Krabs, despite the fact that he was not in the episode.

  • "Graveyard Shift" is listed as "The Graveyard Shift" on the back of this VHS tape and the closing credits.
  • In all Nickelodeon USA, Nicktoons USA, Nick@Nite, UK airings[1] of the episode "Something Smells" along with the iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount+ digital versions, SpongeBob walks up to a building and says, "Hi, building!" which causes the building to flee from SpongeBob's breath. He goes up to Patrick and says, "I just don't get it!" and Patrick says, "I don't either."
    • On this VHS tape, the Undersea Antics Volume 1 VHS tape, all DVD releases, the Nick Scene It? DVD game, the VideoNow disc, the It's a SpongeBob Christmas! Blu-ray, Canadian airings on YTV and Nickelodeon Canada, Polish airings, French airings, Australian airings, and Arab airings, the scene instead goes like this:
    • SpongeBob: [walks up to a building and waves] I just don't get it! [the building flees]
    • Patrick: [off-screen] I don't, either. [SpongeBob walks up to Patrick; the rest of the scene goes as normal, resulting in the same lines being repeated]. According to the audio commentary on The Complete 2nd Season DVD, this was a sound mixing error. The music also repeats itself incorrectly at that point. It is made obvious since SpongeBob's mouth still clearly says the intended line.
  • On the episode description of "Something Smells," it says that SpongeBob ate sea onion ice cream which gives him bad breath, when in the actual episode, it was a peanut onion sundae that he ate. It also said Patrick ate sea onion bon bons which causes him to get the bad breath, when in the episode, he ate the sundae.
  • Sandy's eyelashes are seen in the front cover when she laughs and closes her eyes, even though her eyelashes are not suppose to be seen when she closes her eyes.
    • This happens on the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies DVD.
