Video game

The mobile version of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: The Video Game is a SpongeBob SquarePants video game developed by Amplified Games. Much like all the other versions, it is based on the SpongeBob feature film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. However, unlike its home console counterpart, it is a collection of minigames.

Gameplay

There are four mini games and three gameplay modes.[1]

In the first one, SpongeBob finds himself seated at the counter of Goofy Goober's Ice Cream Parlor. SpongeBob is fickle, so players must only gobble up specific kinds of ice cream, noted by a hungry thought balloon above SpongeBob's head. There are only two kinds of ice cream: sundae and banana split. The ice cream may shoot by at various speeds.

In the second one, players must guide the Patty Wagon through a slalom-type course with gates along the seabed.

The two other mini-games include a bubble popping contest featuring Patrick, and a King Neptune "shooting" game where you must use a trident to nail watery folk as they walk through the lobby of The Krusty Krab.

The gameplay modes are:

  • Challenge Mode: This is designed to allow you to focus on a specific challenge from Travel Mode.
  • Travel Mode

Reception

The mobile phone version was said by Levi Buchanan of IGN to have minigames that are "too simplistic for most gamers to enjoy for very long," compared to console versions of the game and the other games released by THQ Wireless (Bowling and Darts).
