Censorship
The dub has faced censorship challenges on its run on TF1. For example, episodes such as "Spy Buddies," "Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob," "Suction Cup Symphony," and "The Splinter" were banned from airing on TF1 to avoid children from committing dangerous acts. However, some episodes have scenes cut for the same reasons.
The episodes and intro are dubbed into the respective language.
The intro has some different animations that are also seen in the Korean (EBS version), Italian, Castilian Spanish, and Welsh versions of the opening.
During its initial run on Télétoon when airing seasons 1 and 2, it was called Un bob à la Mer with the intro left undubbed minus the title screen and opening credits being localized.[3] But when the dub aired on TF1, the title screen was changed to Bob L'éponge.[4]
Télétoon didn't use the second version of the intro, until 2003; when they started airing season 3.
While dubbing season 6, the original dubbing studio (Studio SOFI) went bankrupt, and the dubbing of the show got moved to another dubbing studio (Dôme Productions.)
In this dub, SpongeBob's first name is "Bob", rather than "SpongeBob".
The different colored faces in the intro were used in the first SpongeBob promo.[5]
In Belgium, Nickelodeon Wallonia airs the HD episodes in 576i, as the channel lacks an HD feed.
In Nickelodeon France's feed, the Nicktoons logo is intact (in the earlier seasons.)
In the earlier seasons, the background characters had different voices throughout the episodes.
Seasons 1-7 used the Ad Lib font on the credits. Ad Lib is the font of the "American Dad" credits.
Errors
In the intro, Painty says "Qui vit dans ananas," instead of "Qui vit dans un ananas."
Before the HD intro, when Painty says "Oooooh...," one can see what looks like a microphone at the top of the screen that is not supposed to be there.
In some episodes, the intro's vocals are out of sync with the instrumental.
In "Truth or Square," at the end of the theme song, the screen is frozen in the middle of SpongeBob dancing, just to show the logo.
In the HD intro, before SpongeBob plays his nose flute, his irises are transparent.
In a lot of episodes, some crew members' names are misspelled.
In "Restraining SpongeBob", when Squidward is removing SpongeBob's name to write Patrick's name in the restraining order paper, a piece of the paper is seen in his head.
Also in the episode, Patrick's name is only seen in the restraining order paper when Squidward shows him it.
